Wildlife in San Francisco

All of these photos were taken on my daily walks: the animals are in the parks, and in the neighborhoods. Most of my walks are very early in the morning, though occasionally I take a later walk to benefit from the stronger light. However, in order to see nocturnal and twilight (crepuscular) animals I had to drastically change my walking pattern, getting out as early as 4:00 am, and staying up until as late as midnight. Foxes, possums, raccoons, bats, owls, skunks and even rats are mostly active at night, though if you are lucky, you might be able to see one during the day occasionally.

My most recent additions will generally be placed at the beginning of the page.
